Here are some basic openings that you should become familiar with. 

Note: There are many variations; I have only listed the most basic for now.

Ruy Lopez Very popular opening

	Starting with 1. e2-e4, e7-e5 2. Knight g1-f3, Knight b8-c6
	3. Bishop f1-b5, a7-a6
	4. Bishop on b5 captures Knight on c6., d7 takes bishop on c6.  Popular variation: Instead of capturing the knight white could move to a4, and then to b3 upon threat from black pawn to b5.
	5. Knight on f3 takes pawn on e5.
	Counter to be aware of.  Black Queen to d4. With this, white looses either its pawn on e4 or its knight on e5.
