Chess is a two player strategy game with 16 pieces for each player. The objective of the game is to place the opponent's king into checkmate. There are two theories of where chess originated. The most common theory is that it came from India in the 5^th century AD. From there it was quickly spread to Persia and then the Arab world. Then finally, in the 10^th century chess reach the European world. The other theory is that the Chinese invented chess in the 6^th century. Recently, Archaeologists have unearthed an ancient chess piece in a Byzantine palace that's 500 years older than any previously found. The British team was working in the ancient city of Butrint, which is now a part of Albania, in it's southern region.
