Welcome to DIGITAL-PANIC -- the Widespread Panic digital taping and trading mailing list. This message contains some important information about participating in our on-line community. Please read this message carefully. * Specific information on how to subscribe is available at http://www.netspace.org/Widespread/help-digital-panic.txt * Digital-panic is not moderated. Anyone may subscribe to the list and any subscriber may post to the list. * Digital-panic is designed for text messages only. Do not attach tape lists, graphics, web pages, encoded messages, V-CARDs or anything else to a digital-panic message. * In rare cases, posts from people who are not subscribed may be passed on to the list if they are of general interest (as defined by the listowner on a case-by-case basis). Also in rare cases, subscribers may be prevented from posting after sending messages in willful disregard of these guidelines. * Digital-panic is concerned with subscriber privacy. The list of subscriber addresses is not publicly available and is used only to do technical maintainance. Please note that there is no need to set the conceal option on listserv. (The listowner will just unset it anyway!). Also in keeping with subscriber privacy, this mailing list is not archived on the web. Messages to Digital-Panic: Here are some guidelines for the DIGITAL-PANIC list. Please read these carefully and follow them! Things you should not post here include: * Any and all analog-related posts (including grovels, tape requests, and offers). This is a digital-only list. * Show reviews, ticket grovels, and venue information not related to taping. Those and other topics that do not directly relate to digital taping and trading should be posted to the SPREADNET and not here. * Miscellaneous topics that are not related to both the music of Widespread Panic and digital taping and trading. While slight digressions from this are acceptable, more extensive ones are not. * Any and all posts that involve offers or grovels for tapes in which one party desires anything extra in a trade (money, tapes, etc.). * While newbie questions will be acceptable, please remember that most of the subscribers to this list are experienced tapers and traders, so when asking questions please ask once and ask for personal responses only. * Tapelists should never be posted to this list. There are several resourses on the web for posting tapelists, most notably the Sandbox (http://www.wsptrading.com). Notes on Using Digital-Panic: * Please remember, taping and trading of the music of Widespread Panic is not a right, it is a wonderful privilege we have been given. Always respect the bands wishes concerning the taping policy. * Please also note that use of DIGITAL-PANIC is not a right either, it is also a privilege and one that other subscribers value. Reckless disregard for these rules will result in your permanent removal from the list at the discretion of the list-owner. Tape Trading, Merchandise, and Profiting From the Work of Others: * We encourage the spread of live music through tape trading. There are many generous and diligent people on spreadnet who are willing to trade tapes and even willing to make tapes if you send blanks and adequate return postage. From time to time, people on the list also organize tape trees for the purpose of spreading the music. * In keeping with the band's policy, we discourage the sale of live tapes and the copying of the officially-released material of Widespread Panic and other musicians. * Although opinions differ on what exactly constitutes the "sale" of live tapes, requesting extra blank tapes or cash in excess of the reasonable cost of blanks is pretty clearly a "sale". There are always people who will make the same tapes without asking for anything in return, so trade with them instead. Do not undermine the privileges of taping and trading! * Keeping in contact with trading partners and completing trades in a reasonable amount of time is important. If you are having personal or equipment problems and therefore experience major delays in meeting your obligations, let people know (one short message to the list would suffice). * We discourage the sale of merchandise that includes the trademarks of Widespread Panic, especially bootleg CDs. * We discourage the selling of concert tickets for more than face value plus service charges. Thanks for joining us. Please contact digital-panic-request@netspace.org if you need assistance.
