ACC Online E-mail Newsletter

The ACC Online E-mail Newsletter is a service of Arlington CC and myself. It is sent out usually a couple times each month, typically announcing upcoming local events and reporting the results of events just completed.

If you wish to subscribe to the e-mail service/mailing list, just drop me a message and you'll get the next one as soon as it is sent out.

If you ever find the list annoying and wish to be removed, just send me a message with "Remove" as the subject header.

Below will always be the latest e-mail newsletter, with all URLS hyperlinked. I only update this page once in several blue moons, there are 1-2 issues out each mont

These have been very strong events over the past few months, lots of

The Baltimore Open was held this past weekend at Goucher College. Turnout
was a little light, but those who participated in this 47th Annual
Version had fun at a great site. GM Jaan Ehlvest raced to a 4-0 score
and when a draw would clinch clear first, IM Oladapo Adu, playing black,
didn't have much reason to decline the offer.

Adu, FM Boris Zisman, NM Troy Roberts and Kaupo Kruusiauk (An Estonian
film-director friend of Ehlvest) scored 4-1 to take 2nd-3rd. Doug Stanley
won the Class A prize, followed by Luis Gonzales-Silen and Michael Stepp
sharing the B prize. Joseph Coppola won the C prize and Alvin Jones
(whose 3-2 score was the best rating point gain in the event) took the
D money. Dr. Steven Hudson took the E money and his wife, Lori Hudson,
won the U1000 prize.

Denis Strenzwilk, long known for his ability to play lengthy games (hoorah
for sudden death!), was one of the final third round games done and his
opponent was GM Ehlvest. This long game, which is in the database, saw
both players in a time scramble at the end of the 4 hours play. While
Denis' white side pieces seemed at least equal at times, especially when
both rooks and queen dominated the Queen's file, in the end it seemed like
GM prowess held true and Ehlvest pulled out the win.
