B C Cochin All-India FIDE Rated Open, Cochin

Ratnakaran emerges champion 

Kerala Champion K Ratnakaran of Railways, with eight points, emerged champion in the FIDE-rated second B C Cochin All India Chess tournament, which concluded here today. 

After the ninth and final round, both Ratnakaran and International Master S Poobesh Anand were tied with equal progressive scores. In the lightning play-off applied to decide the winner, Ratnakaran won the title 2-1.

In the top board today, Poobesh drew with IM D V Prasad, while in the second board, IM Koshy Varghese drew with Ratnakaran.

Kerala's G N Gopal defeated former Kerala champion M B Muraleedharan, B S Shivananda of Karnataka beat K Haridas, top seed Himanshu Sharma of Haryana drew with Sai Srinivas, while IM U C Mohanan (Ker) lost to IM V Saravanan.

G N Gopal and B S Shivananda took the third and fourth slots respectively.
