Anand beats Topalov in Blitz TV match Feb 02
 

Viswanathan AnandIndia's Viswanathan Anand beat Bulgarian Super Grandmaster Veselin Topalov in a TV Blitz match in Sofia, the Bulgarian capital to avenge the defeat he suffered at the hands of the same player in Wijk Aan Zee last month. Anand, the NIIT Brand Ambassador, won the first game with black pieces and then drew the second with white to emerge a 1.5-0.5 victor. 

Both games were in the Sicilian, the first being a Sicilian Paulsen which last 42 moves before the Indian Mind Champion won the game. The second game was a Sicilian-Sveshnikov which last 31 moves before Topalov realized he did not have a chance of leveling the score and took a draw. 

The Games were played on a format of 10 minute per player with no increments for each move. The Indian is rated at 2766, while Topalov is more than 30 elo points behind at 2735.

Prior to this match, Anand and Topalov, have played 48 games between themselves, and the Indo-Bulgarian duo now completes a half century of games with this twin blitz games.

This was the first time that a TV Blitz match was held in Bulgaria. In the past Anand has played such games in Cologne, Germany.
