National Under
7 Champion Sahaj
Grover became the youngest Internationally rated player of the country by virtue
of his performance in the II Rajiv Gandhi Memorial International Rating
Chess tournament held in New Delhi in the month of February 2003. In the
April 2003 FIDE, the World Chess Federation's, rating list announced
today, Sahaj stands at 1944 ELO rating points which is commendable for a boy
of his age.
Born on September 7, 1995 Sahej finished 2nd in the British
Under-8 and Under-10 Category in the year 2002 and he was aptly aided
by his school Kulachi Hansraj for his participation there. The young man holds the potential to make it very big in Chess and his success
story comes on the heels of Parimarjan Negi's title triumph in the last
Asian Under-10 Championship held at Tehran, Iran, last year and Tania
Sachdev's maiden Asian Junior Girls' Championship Crown at Sri
Lanka.
Sahaj came to limelight by winning the State Championship for under 7
years age-group in the year 2001 and since then he was nurtured well by
quite a few coaches under the supervision of Delhi Chess Association. Right now
Sahaj is training under former National Junior Champion Gurpreet Pal
Singh, seasoned Virender Singh Negi and Harish Sharma who all deserve credit for
this fantastic achievement by the prodigy child. Upon hearing the great record made by Sahaj, the Delhi Chess Association announces a Coaching
Camp for the talented youngster under the supervision of an International
Master in near future.
The DCA feels that, given the right kind of training
after this very important milestone, Sahaj will be a frontrunner in the
World Under 10 Championship of 2004. Parimarjan is already a strong contender
for the Championship this year. Sahej is currently playing in the NDMC
Delhi State Chess Championship 2003 being organized at Krishnan Menon Lane.
Great promise is what Sahaj holds for us in Delhi and we in Delhi Chess
Association will make our most sincere efforts to help the prodigy reach the
pinnacle of Chess.
