Probation officers had no way of telling whether Kevin Merzier was actually at work when he allegedly drove on Pine Street Monday, firing a gun out the window of his car. His radio frequency monitoring device could only tell probation officers whether Merzier was at home or not. In contrast, GPS monitoring can track the wearer’s daily whereabouts.

Bhrihaspati Lama, owner of Annapurna Restaurant in Porter Square, wants to offer customers alcohol, but he’s got one problem: there aren’t any licenses available. He’s applying for a license to serve beer and wine at the new Himalayan spot, which has a capacity of about 60.
