SIM John Timm has qualified to enter the Final of the ICCF World
Championship. His play in the
XIX. 3/4-final, Section 3 also earned him a GM norm (link
shows the most recent ICCF crosstable; Timm now has 11½ of 15, one game

SHORT CHESS BIOGRAPHY: I was an active OTB player for about 20 years,
peak rating about 2350, but only one OTB tournament in the last 15 years. I
gave up OTB chess for the usual reasons (full-time job, wife, son, other
responsibilities). Basically, I found it impossible to live the rest of my life
and still play in the major weekend or longer tournaments with GM/IM norms I
needed to play in to improve. I played in one domestic CC tournament (Golden
Knights, 17 1/2 of 18, tied for first), then switched to international play to
find stronger opposition. My last two tournaments were XIII Olympiad Prelims
(10 1/2 of 12 on fifth board) and XIX World 3/4 Finals (11 1/2 of 15, one game
remaining, GM norm=10 1/2); FUTURE CC PLANS: I will play in the GM
Veinger Memorial (e-mail) starting in June (probably Cat. XIII, GM norm 8 of
14). That will be my first e-mail tournament. Depending on how I adjust to
playing by e-mail, I may play in the next WC (presumably will be e-mail), or
wait for the next WC by post.
