[18...g6] 19.Nd4 g6 20.f5!?

A very good try in a typical type of position. [However 20.axb5 axb5 21.f5 may well be better.] 20...exf5 [I don't understand why Kasparov rejected 20...dxe5 21.fxe6 fxe6 because I see no way for White to continue his onslaught even with an open f file for example. 22.Bxd5 exd5 23.Qf3 Qd6 repulses the attack (23...exd4 24.Qf7+ and Bxd4 wins.) ] 21.Bxd5 dxe5 22.Nxf5 Bxf5 23.Rxf5 gxf5 24.Qh5 Bf8 25.Qxf5 Bg7 26.Ra3 [26.axb5 Rxb5 27.c4 Rxd5 28.cxd5 Qd6 is equal.] 26...e4 27.Rh3 [27.Bxe4 looks good 27...Re6 (27...Rxe4 is possible) 28.Qxh7+ Kf8 29.Rg3 Qxg3!! survives 30.Bc5+ Qd6] 27...h6 28.Rg3?

[28.Qg6 idea Rxh6 looked strong and then perhaps 28...e3 29.Rg3 Qe5 30.Bxf7+ Kh8 31.Rxe3 Qxe3 32.Bxe3 Rxe3 and Black should be OK.] 28...Qe5! 29.Bxf7+ Kh8 the black king is safe and Kasparov makes the extra material count. 30.Qg6 Rf8 31.axb5 axb5 32.Bd5 Rf1 33.c3 Rbf8 34.h3 Qf6 35.Bxe4 Qxg6 36.Rxg6 Re8 37.Bd3 Rd1 38.Rd6 Bf8 39.Bg6 Bxd6 0-1
