The history of the African Team Championship, organized by African Chess Union, is still a mystery to us. We can only offer you details from 2003 edition which was actually part of 8th All-African Games. Another point is that 2nd championship took place in 1997 in Cairo, Egypt and the home team won. We can only guess that the premier edition was held between 1989 and 1993, since 1993 was the first World Team Championship when a national team from Africa (Egypt) was invited and not a continental team. It is also believed that no African Team Championships took place between 1997 and 2003. Any further information on past results will be appreciated.
