This is definitely one of the better books to come out of the backgammon boom
of the 70's. Typically you should shy away from anything earlier than '76 as
play didn't improve until players like Dwek and Magriel put their expertise to
paper. You get about 100 pages of problems of various stages of the game
followed by problems outlining different strategies on typical types of games
including backgames, prime vs. prime, blitzes and running as well as some
limited cube tips in these games. Certainly one of the best of its day.

This is a book of backgammon problems. However, unlike other similar books,
this one will give a problem and the solution. However, the next problem will be
almost identical to the first but with a small difference in the situation. This
subtle diffence leads to a different solution. These subtle differences vividly
display the variety of factors that need to be considered when making your move.
Joe Dwek explains the solutions well so there is no doubt afterwards that his
solution is correct. Finally, the problems do cover all aspects of the
game.
David McNeely from Tampa, FL USA, July 30, 2001
Problems that would now be considered fairly basic. Almost all solutions are
right. Tables of replies to opening moves show how badly people played in 1975.
Marty Storer, May 1992
First published in 1975, Dwek's classic book is available again in softcover.
An excellent introduction covers Dwek's philosophy of the game and his general
approach to money play; this is followed by 121 problems divided into 9
sections. Backgammon for Profit is the best book we stock for the
beginning to intermediate player.
