Pesonen Memorial match marking the Centenary of the Middlesex CALast Edited: Sunday June 8, 2008 11:16 AMJohn Dodgson reports: When I read that Middlesex Chess Association was celebrating its centenary in 2007 it occurred to me that we (Sussex) might challenge them to a correspondence chess match in memory of Erkki Pesonen. Erkki Pesonen b.10/12/1930 d.23/11/2006: Some of you will have known Finnish born Erkki from his Haywards Heath club days in the Mid-Sussex League and Under-175 SCCU matches. Erkki was often the highest rated player in our Ward-Higgs team, about 2380 on the ICCF list. He played five games for Sussex , usually on Board 1 or 2 of the Email team, and was unbeaten (W3 D2). The match commenced on 21st July 2007 in the centenary year of the Middlesex CA with three games played by email and three by post. We used the C&DCCC Rules with a 12-month playing period. Ratings from ICCF list March 2007. Thank you to ALL players for a trouble-free season and to the Middlesex officials Hassan Afnan & Chris Fewtrell for their help in organising this event. John Dodgson.
