Big Oil, big influence

As angry voters spark a barrage of energy bills in Congress, the oil industry is spending record amounts of money protecting its interests.

In what may be surprising to some, the most recent figures from the Center for Responsive Politics show that the oil industry gives a relatively small sum to individual political campaigns - it's 16th on a list of top 50 industries.

You can't regulate renewable energy as easily as you can non renewables. Therefore, there is less money to be made in it for the large established companies like big oil. Also, considering how heavily oil is taxed already,(about 60% total), the government stands to lose more than the oil companies if they are put out of business. No conspiracies, just economic sense.

It is a wicked web that has been woven, and at the heart of it: BIG MONEY!!!

Big Oil is trying to buy the Presidential race, yet again. Oil companies would rather keep us all subservient to oil over finding energy sources that will inevitably be free when harnessed (wind/sun). Big oil has so many people wrapped around it's finger that the price of their shit controls the stock market and fuels war. How anybody could be for HELPING these jerks is beyond me. People need to stay warm in the winter, electricity needs generated. To continue on a path of reliance on oil to do that job is just asking for inflated prices. Drill more holes is not the answer because their is no supply shortage. Anybody notice how gas has started to drop... well imagine that, gas is dropping and yet no new drilling has been done.. Could it be people got a bit wiser about how they use their gas and have brought the price down by conserving? If a greater effort was made into doing that, gas would not be the great commodity that the oil barrons make it out to be.

Please direct me to the research division of the Sierra Club. I can’t seem to find any liberal organization that spends one dollar on research and development. I can find their legal department’s just fine but no R&D. R&D tax breaks are insignificant compared to corporate tax rates.

You throw around the term “BIG OIL”. Well let me tell you, there is no such thing as little oil. It takes billions to get oil out of the ground and into a gas tank. If they have made record profits, they have paid record taxes. In addition to the taxes they pay directly, states have had a record windfall in tax revenue.

What is Obama’s recommendation, tax oil companies after they have already paid tax? Taking money from people that have earned, it and giving it those who have not, is just not a solution.

No, we shouldn't drill for more Oil. We should just, wait for alternative sources of energy to pick up the Slack and in the meantime allow our economy and our lifestyle to collapse. We should just, quit using Oil period and go back to walking and living in mud huts. I thank GOD that the Liberals haven't taken total control over this Nation yet. However, that may happen if BHO is elected.

Don't be silly, we can't sit around and wait, we boost our economy by creating jobs NOW that will increase production of alternative sources. Hundreds upon thousands of jobs in all 50 states making solar panels and winmills, saturate the market with low cost alternative energy solutions available to the middle class not just the upper middle class and those who can afford a second mortages on their homes. Incentives for home owners and home buyers to convert to a renewable energy platform, basically PUSH A BIT HARDER to encourage the next generation of power. Oil dependency is just like it claims it is... a FOSSIL FUEL. It's time to move forward from it's influence on our lives, if you can't agree with that, then you are probably a fossil as well.

What we have seen over the past 10 years people is nothing less than the re-birth of Standard Oil Corporation. Go to he below link, print out, and read the same. Tell me that John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil now lives again albeit under several names with one common goal of AN REBORN WORLD ENERGY MONOPOLY.
