The Black Cauldron (Sierra On-Line, 1986 or 1987)

Based on the animated movie of the same name more than Lloyd Alexander's book, this was Sierra's first no-typing game. While the interface was not all that good (with function keys being used to control all of the game's actions), this was a fun little game that provided a good and light-hearted diversion in a fantasy realm that was more believable and colorful than the early King's Quest games. It had several endings, each of which would achieve the desired win condition, but would give you varying numbers of points, and certain amounts of satisfaction. Though no heavy mental challenge to even the beginning game player, it is a bright and entertaining little game, worthy of an afternoon's play.
