Enchanter (Infocom, 1983)

Taking place in the same universe as the Zork Trilogy, Enchanter is the first in a second trilogy dealing much more with the magical aspects of the universe. Many different and unique magic spells can be used to solve most, but not all, of the puzzles and tricky situations in the game. The story of the game is quite good, though, unfortunately, it doesn't develop much trough the game. It is all laid out for you at the beginning, and you learn little more of what's truly going on until the end. With a good mix of easy and more difficult puzzles, Enchanter is good for the beginning adventurer, though a familiarity with the Zork universe and the mapping techniques required for interactive fiction games such as this would definitely be an asset.
