Maniac Mansion (Lucasfilm Games, 1985 or 1986)

LucasFilm's big game of the 1980s, Maniac Mansion used EGA graphics to depict the story of several teenagers in a haunted house, and also (I believe) began the tradition they seem to have of allowing you to switch characters in most of their games. Unfortunately, the game just wasn't that interesting. There was a minimalistic plot, but the puzzles were dull and meaningless, and the atmosphere and flavor I believe the designers were looking for just wasn't there. I didn't believe the game took place in a "haunted" house or that there was something real at stake. This game would have needed to do that for it to be worth playing, as that is what it attempts the most.
