Phantasmagoria (Sierra On-Line, 1995)

Roberta Williams' Phantasmagoria suffers from many of the same problems as her King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride--the interface driven by one icon makes the game very clumsy and not very challenging, the graphics and sound were inserted in the place of most game elemnts, and the writing is very weak, some of Ms. Williams' worst. (Though it is supposed to be a horror game, she managed to achieve more fright and suspense in The Colonel's Bequest than she does here.) Add to this the poor acting and misguided characterizations of the otherwise decent video in the game, and Phantasmagoria has almost nothing going for it. If you are in the mood for an interactive movie with a weak plot and very little interaction, you might enjoy Phantasmagoria, but I don't know why anyone else would.
