Suspended (Infocom, 1983)

One of the most intricate and difficult games of all time, Suspended is TOUGH and incredibly detailed. Though all that needs to be done is reset three computers that control a planet's vital systems and functions, the task is anything but simple, for you cannot manipulate things yourself. You must do everything through six robots, each of whom perceives the world differently. Though the game becomes easier once you learn to control the robots (not as easy as it sounds), there is still a lot of game and challenge ahead. It is also very replayable, offering three pre-programmed difficulty levels and a setting that lets you configure the game yourself. Ahead of its time as an adventure game, a strategy game, and a simulation game, Suspended is certainly a challenging adventure to be played (and replayed) by anyone who isn't afraid of quite a bit of hard work.
