Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss (Origin Systems, 1992)

Origin's decision to create a new chapter in the Ultima series in the first-person perspective like that used in Dungeon Master was very interesting and well-implemented. Using improved graphics and sound technology, the design of Ultima Underworld is more fluid and graphically interesting than Dungeon Master, though it seems more like a manufactured product and less of a special endeavor than Dungeon Master or other games in the Ultima series. Still, the story is a good one, and the changes in the basic game engine add a good new atmosphere to this game. Though the game does drag on toward the end, if you enjoy Ultima games or games in the Dungeon Master mold, you will no doubt enjoy Ultima Underworld.
