Zork: Grand Inquisitor (Activision, 1997)

The third of the new generation Zork games, Zork: Grand Inquisitor finally succeeds at most closely matching the style of the original text adventures. Though its rather simplistic and overly complicated puzzles--common in today's adventure games, but rarely seen at the time of the original games' releases--prevent Zork: Grand Inquisitor from being a truly good homage or even a completely worthy addition to the series, it is a good game, with many nice touches in it. Some good graphics, music, and acting complete the picture, though it is no surprise that some Zork trademarks, such as G.U.E. Tech, the enchantress Y'Gael, and a few others simply don't look as good on the screen as they do in the mind. Despite this unavoidable hurdle, and despite its relative shortness and ease of completion, Zork: Grand Inquisitor is quite a good game, worthy of play by all adventure--and Zork fans.
