General Questions

Q: What is Social Project?

A: Social Project ("SP") is a technology that provides social networking tools to community sites on the web. Once you've registered with one SP-powered community, you can use the same e-mail address and password to join more communities - while bringing your profile and friends along with you! To fulfill that request, the community site will have access to the registration information you have previously provided and you may be asked to provide additional information by the community site. (In these FAQs, we may refer to a community you have joined as "your" or "my" community. Please also note: certain features discussed below may not be available on every SP-powered community, or may be different from site to site.)

Registration

Q: Is there an age limit to sign up with MTV?

A: You must be 14 or older to sign up with MTV. Certain SP-powered communities may impose different age limits, so check their rules if you want to join.

Q: Is SP a free service?

A: Currently, there is no fee to participate in SP's standard social networking service. SP's standard social networking service is currently supported by advertising. SP may offer paid premium services or offer other products or services for sale. In addition, owners of SP-powered communities may offer premium services or other products/services for sale. Certain SP-powered communities may be advertising-free and may prohibit marketing to such community's users; please be sure to review each community's privacy policies and other policies and terms and conditions, if such policies and terms and conditions exist, as they may contain more information on that community's advertising and marketing practices.

Q: How do I join more than one SP-powered community?

A: It's easy. Once you are logged in with SP, we will recognize you when you visit another SP-powered community, making it easy for you to join there - just click "Join." (Please note that each SP-powered community may have its own eligibility requirements, so you will only be eligible to join if you meet such eligibility requirements.) You will bring your profile and friends with you to your new communities as you join them, making it easy to manage your membership in multiple communities; additional features may be provided by SP.

Q: When I join an SP-powered community, do I automatically join all SP-powered communities?

A: No, you are only a member of the communities that you explicitly choose to join. We do not automatically make you a member of other communities.

Q: Who sees my registration data when I sign up?

A: Because you sign up with both SP and your community, both SP and the owner/administrator of your community have access to your registration data. Please see the SP Privacy Policy to review SP's practices with regard to your information. Please note that your communities may each have their own policies and practices regarding use of your data, so be sure to review those policies too.

Uploading Content/Comments

Q: How do I upload photos? (Profile photo is discussed above.)

A: It depends on each SP-powered community that you join. Some communities may allow photo uploading subject to terms and conditions (and always subject to our Terms of Use Agreement). Other communities may not allow photo uploading. Check the site navigation, features, and rules of each of your communities. As a general rule, if photo uploading is allowed, you may only upload photos you own or otherwise have the rights to post on the Internet.

On MTV.com, you can upload yourphotos through your Account Settings.

Member Profiles

Q: How do I access my profile?

A: In most SP-powered communities, get quick access to your profile by logging in, opening the "More" menu, and selecting "Account." (In certain communities, log in and click your username in the top menu, to edit your account.)

On MTV.com, you access your account by logging in and clicking 'Account Settings' at the top right of the page.

Q: How do I manage my personal information (e.g., e-mail address, password, display name, username) and my public profile information (profile photo, profile information)?

A: In most SP-powered communities, log in, open the "More" menu and select "Account." From there, you can upload a profile photo, manage your unique username, display name, email-address and password, and more. You can also select "Profile" to edit additional public profile information, e.g., relationship status, occupation, interests, favorite music, etc. Always use the Internet safely. Do not post any personal information that would enable a stranger to locate you, such as your full name, e-mail address, street address, telephone, using a display name that is your first name or initial and last name, or links to any web pages where your personal information is displayed. Also, do not post any information you do not want the general public to be able to view. On MTV.com, you access your account by logging in and clicking 'Account Settings' at the top right of the page.

Friends and Public Profile Pages

Q: When will friends and public user profiles be available?

A: MTV is considering these features in future releases.

Supported Web Browsers

Q: Does MTV.com support all web browsers?

A: MTV.com attempts to support its site functionality for all web browsers. However, at this time, MTV.com cannot insure the functional experience within the Safari browser. Please be assured that we are actively working to optimize the experience for Safari users.

Deactivating My SP Account/Communities

Q: How do I deactivate my SP Account?

A: If you deactivate your SP Account, you are deactivating your memberships in all of your communities. In most SP-powered communities, to deactivate your SP Account, log in, go to the "More" menu, select "Account," and click on "Deactivate My Account." (In certain communities, log in and click your username in the top menu, to edit your account.)
On MTV.com, you can de-activate your SP account through your Account Settings.

Q: How do I deactivate from a specific SP-powered community?

A: If you do not want to deactivate entirely from SP, but just quit a particular community you have joined, log in, go to "More", and select "Communities." From there, you can easily quit any of your communities. (Whether or not you are registered with SP, some communities may permit you to access certain features and services not powered by SP. Please review each site's terms and conditions for more information.)
On MTV.com, you can quit the MTV community through your Account Settings.

Deactivating My Child's SP Account/Communities

Q: How do I deactivate my child's entire SP Account?

A: The SP-powered communities are not directed toward children younger than age 13, and SP does not knowingly collect information from children. However, if you believe your child under 13 has provided information to SP or created an SP profile, please notify SP so that we can delete any personal information your child younger than 13 has provided and deactivate their SP Account. You can also deactivate their SP Account. If your teen is between age 13 - 18, they may use the SP service but only at your discretion - so you can deactivate their SP Account too.
To deactivate, log in to your child's SP Account, go to the "More" menu in the quick navigation bar, select "Account," and click "Deactivate My Account." (In certain communities, log in and click your child's username in the top menu, to edit your child's SP Account.) This will deactivate your child's entire SP Account, including any memberships in specific SP-powered communities.
Or contact us at info@socialproject.com to request deactivation of your child's SP Account. For identity verification, please be prepared to provide your child's registration e-mail address and password.

Q: How do I deactivate specific SP-powered communities my teen has joined?

A: Sometimes it may not be necessary to deactivate your teen's entire SP Account, but just deactivate their membership in a specific community. Log in to your teen's SP Account, go to the "More" menu in the quick navigation bar and select "Communities." From there, you can easily deactivate your teen's membership in any listed community.
If you are concerned that your teen may rejoin the community, contact us at info@socialproject.com to request a permanent community ban for your teen. For identity verification, please be prepared to provide your teen's registration e-mail address and password.
Whether or not your teen is registered with SP, some communities may permit access to certain features and services not powered by SP. Please review each site's terms and conditions for more information.

Contacting My Communities

Q: How do I contact my communities with comments or questions?
