Nevada governor chides Forest Service over fire
Nevada's governor has criticized a U.S. Forest Service decision to let a wildfire burn unchecked for two weeks, allowing it to 'get out of control.'
A lightening-caused fire that ignited Aug. 21 in northeast Nevada has grown from about 13 square miles to 76 square miles, officials said. It also has moved to within 4 miles of the small town of Jarbidge.
The blaze was 30 percent contained Sunday. No homes were threatened, and no major injuries were reported.

Satellite phones make cowboys wildfire sentinels
The craggy gullies where Idaho cowboy Paul Nettleton runs 1,200 head of cattle are often precious minutes from reliable cell phone coverage.
That could spell disaster in this region where sudden summertime storms howl in from eastern Oregon, bringing dry lightning that can ignite fast-moving wildfires on sage- and juniper-covered hillsides. Unchecked, the flames could quickly turn this old mining town's historic wooden buildings to ashes.
This spring, Nettleton and six other Owyhee County ranchers who make their livelihoods in some of America's most remote backcountry began carrying satellite telephones provided by the federal Bureau of Land Management and the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security.
Crews struggled Friday to contain a sprawling central Montana wildfire that has burned more than 126 square miles and repeatedly jumped fire lines intended to halt its advance.
