Runner I agree, we simply can not join around a passive idea. The aggressiveness has been hidden for to long and now it wants to come out.

It's relly funny but it seems the "Defence" will attack and the "Attack" will have to defend!

After a few moves I've decided vote chess is not really my cup of tea, I prefer to be in control.

Defence relys on attrician. Attack utilises all pieces from the onset.

A combination of both is the ideal game, but I like defense.

"I accidentally left the game, and can't rejoin, so I'm just typing my ideas in the public comments area. That bishop could really try to take our white rook stuck in the corner there. We really have to open up an area for him to escape from! We should really move that pawn on the side so we don't lose our rook!Wink"

If you left the game then that's tough. Don't post your ideas for the whole defense team to see, you can't come backFrown.

And anyway it doesn't matter this time, as im sure everyone on the defense team has realised that Nc3 covers e4Wink.

"Petrosian probably didn't inspire many people to take up chess"

That's probably because only masters truely understand the incredible depth to his moves. So certainly no beginners will!

It's either Karate or Judo, isn't it? With Karate, you try to get the killer blow in first; with Judo, you use your opponent's attack to your advantage. It's a question of taste, or in my case, as a woodpusher, the mood I'm in. Sometimes it's good to watch an attacker come unstuck; at other times it's good to go for the jugular. Both ways are satisfying to the winner. Playing Black you probably have to wait for White's initiative to go wrong (i.e. defend). Defence is just attack delayed, anyway.

Petrosian probably didn't inspire many people to take up chess, whereas Tal and Fischer probably did. The best players know how to strike the perfect balance (for themselves).

That's the beauty of the fight (it's not a game, ask Lasker).

No no, checkmate is the best defense.  Attacks don't lead to checkmate, they lead to massive backlash generally =)

"Defense usually reacts or waits for a mistake, but what if the other person does NOT make any mistakes? Then you just sit there and have to take it. If you can stand being someone's bitch then you should probably play black."

Well you can say the same thing for white, if black makes no mistakes, white won't break through. How likely is it for no mistakes, not even slight positional inaccuracies to be made during the course of a game? And you know that's not the only way to defend, it is legal to create counter threats! There's no defender's law saying he should sit there and take being someone's bitch! ;)
