A low-fat standby

Occasionally, when I invite friends for dinner, a guest will remind me (in a polite but insistent manner) that he or she is on a low-fat diet. Confidently, I reassure such individuals that my meal will not jeopardize their regimen. When I hang up the phone, though, I wring my hands.

Super Bowl is party time. And where I come from, that means barbecue. One advantage of living in Miami is that you can fire up the grill year-round. But even when I lived in New England, I would chip the ice off my kettle grill in the dead of winter to satisfy my lust for grilling.
