| DoctorD: Yes there is a problem in finishing off but it has to do with the fact that defensive capabilities have improved, not any lack of winning ability on the part of the GMs. Just my opinion. |

Find any player in history with plenty of games to test (Kasparov, Fischer, anyone), and tell me that they found all of the best lines, according to computers, for even a fraction of their games, and never squandered advantages. |

| Stoned Knight: Whats this Rybka business now? I thought Fritz was the best chess engine. Anyway, I would forbid resigning: "No sir, show me how you mate, else be happy with a draw." Plus I would introduce something like penalty shootout. In case of equal scoring, five random mate problems each. I guess one could write a book on endgame with Q+R vs 2R+2P. We'll never see the end here, though.

| square dance: rybka has been the strongest engine since it came out. i forget when, but it was before the elista match. and whats this about not resigning? they're super GMs, not third graders. |

| Stoned Knight: Exactly because they are not third graders. They are the best living players but didnt Topalov miss Qa5? I don't think I could mate Magnus in that position and I guess it would be hard even for his peers. They played for three hours, they might as well show us the blood, few more moves. It's like reading a detective but when you figured it all out someone rips off the last chapter. |

| Stoned Knight: LOL, I got on the wrong match page and you didnt realise it. Had you looked at the diagram you would have realised that that is an intermediate position of the Anand-Aronian endgame. In any case, I may not understand and you may be able to find the perfect mate against a 2700+ GM but thats not the point. I want to see how they do it, are you sure that given the same position any pair of GMs would mate the same way, maybe under time pressure and having played for 4 hours? Sorry for being silly and wasting your time, I guess you are now busy giving Anand advice on how to improve his game. |
