beenthere240: Looks to me like the black knight is on its way to e6 permitting Rd8 and further piece reduction. Of course it's not an ending with opposite colored knights!

Chessmensch: Deep Fritz 10 calls it a draw after 26...Nc5.

agb2002: I wonder whether exchanging rooks and then white's f-pawn and black's g6-pawn wouldn't improve white's chances to win because eventually the h-pawn could become passed.

Woody Wood Pusher: Forget 3-1-0 they should just introduce financial penalties for this sort of thing!

beenthere240: That's a good point. Black will want to keep the rooks on to help ensure the draw.

tarun. ganguli: It's a dead draw with black placing Rook on h5. Anand will be satisfied with the draw, considering his awful form.

tarun. ganguli: No way a positive result can ensue to either. Better we should be shown other gams.

Ulhumbrus: Anand threatens the manoeuvre Re3-d3-d5. On 37...Rh5 ( to prevent Rd5) 38 Rd3+ Ke7 ( to cover all three back ranks against invasion by the White Rook, the 6th, 7th and 8th ranks) 39 Ke4 White's King is more advanced than Black's.

theodor: to wwp; i figured out a non direct duel; a random mittelschpil situation is simultanely played in separates rooms (like in bridge) from the two contestants.

Ulhumbrus: Assuming that Topalov uses his King to keep White's Rook out of all three Black back ranks, one of Anand's potential threats is to enter a King and Pawn ending where his King will be advanced further than Black's.

Ulhumbrus: On 41...Kd7 42 Re4 Rh5 43 Kf4 White's King is more advanced than Black's. Perhaps Anand does not consider his advantage sufficient to win
Sep-12-08   offtherook: Oh yes, the 3-1-0 has done so much to get rid of boring draws. Look how enterprising Topalov is being, playing something as risky and double-edged as the Caro-Kann! That takes some serious balls. And it's also so far out of Topalov's normal style, since he's always known as being so conservative and playing for a draw as black.
Sep-12-08   Whitehat1963: Regardless of how long this game is, it still looks like a bloodless draw. Oh well.
