Edging it Out

Submitted by benws on Tue, 09/09/2008 at 6:18pm.

Alekhine starts up a kingside attack in this game, aided with the help of a lethal cocktail of "edge moves." When Maroczy makes a slip, the attack comes crashing through and black is forced to resign.

EDIT: sorry guys, i added in the rest of the game.

Fun game to look at -- thanks for posting.

p.s.  does anyone know how to get rid of the little "share" button that blocks you from reading the last line of commentary?  I hate that thing!

The pawn push to dislodge the black queen (25. b4!) was brilliant.

Really exciting finish.

The explanation seems to be wrong.

Second checkmate sequence is written as follows:

28...Kd8 29 Qxc8+! Kxc8 30 Rc8#

But it's

28...Kd8 29 Qxe8+! Kxe8 30 Rc8#
