Opposite Side Castling Madness

Submitted by Patzer24 on Mon, 09/08/2008 at 7:54pm.

Here is a game from the 61st Russian Championship Higher League, GM Inarkiev - GM Shomoev with full annotations and commentary:

In this game we saw a fun double edged battle where the players castled on opposite sides of the board. Usually when this occurs it will be a fierce battle where both sides will rush to attack the other King first. In this case white was the one who was able to win the race to the opponents King which allowed for a decisive attack to claim the win.

That attack destroys the Sicilian often.  Yugoslavian/English attack/Austrian system is strong against the best ideas of Black piece play.  Powerful game.

Great game, thank you!

IMHO the simplest way for white to enter into endgame on move 40 would be with Qe8 ( giving check, forces exchange of rooks and captures black's knight).
