I'm from the Netherlands and study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Twente in Enschede. Chessgames.com helped me a lot analyzing games and looking at ideas.

I started playing with 1. d4, but recently play 1. e4 as well, because I love the spanish game and though I might like playing against the sicilian, which is, in fact, very fun to do.

aktajha: <Magnusch: Another suggestion(s) about the scoring system: 4-1-0 or 5-1-0 or 6-1-0 ... or 9-1-0 (or..) If they really want to force the players to go for a win, I think they only have to test what number it takes to reach that goal.> No number at all. As can be seen in ...

Sep-02-08 Aronian vs Carlsen, 2008 (replies)

aktajha: No big blunders here, just a case of not enough compensation for the pawn and an amazing way of converting it by Carlsen.

Jul-19-08 Nezhmetdinov vs Geller, 1954 (replies)

aktajha: Why is everyone so overly enthousiastic about the final position? I agree, the position is good, but look at the game! Incredible fighting for the initiative by both players.

aktajha: <Kreifi> Yes indeed, I know. And after all, it's only a game...a free one at that! Congratulations that you made just enough points!

Jun-19-08 Ivanchuk vs Eljanov, 2008 (replies)

aktajha: <Keypusher: Heck, what's the problem with having an extra pawn? etc> I think you don't get much more than a draw here with an extra pawn, since only heavy pieces are left. Black can probably win back the pawn or blockade and restrict it, so white can make no progress. Chucky ...

aktajha: Greece really played great at the EC today, I especially like how they tried to win from the beginning

aktajha: <pawn ambush> indeed, I saw the pics earlier, but now you mention it. I've never seen anyone do that before; most of the times there are two piles of mess next to the board.

Jun-04-08 The World vs G Timmerman, 2007 (replies)

aktajha: Congratulations team, I didn't cooperate, but I'd like to congratulate you all on another great result. I did occassionally drop by to see if the drawish position changed into a winning one and it did! Something else now: What's really funny is, I was away from the fora quite some ...

   Jun-04-08 J Smeets vs Ljubojevic, 2007 (replies)

aktajha: I can't believe no-one has kibitzed on this game yet. The attack seems to come so natural. What was black's mistake? Very difficult. May be already the plan with 12... a5 and 13. ... Bb4 was wrong? It made black even more passive than usual in the Berlin defense. White just makes ...

   Jun-04-08 Caro-Kann, Classical (B19) (replies)

aktajha: I think that against lower rated players you'd better play something less drawish then caro-kann. The problem with classical is, that if white chooses to play it safely, a draw is quickly reached. If you choose for 1. ... c5 or 1. ... e5 I think you can more easily outplay them, ...
