kellmano: A slightly embarassing defeat for black. I like L'Ami's direct style of play.

  tpstar: If 19 ... Rxg5 20. Re8+ Rg8 (20 ... Kg7 21. Ne6+) 21. Nxf5!:

The primary threat is 22. Qd4+ mating; if 21 ... h6 22. Qd4+ Kh7 23. Re7+ wins the Queen, or 21 ... Qxf5 22. Qd4+ Qe5 23. Rxe5 dxe5 24. Qxe5+ etc. So 21 ... Rxe8 22. Qd4+ Re5 (22 ... Kg8? 23. Nh6+ Kf8 24. Qf6+ mates) 23. Nxd6:

White regains the Rook after 23 ... Qg7/Qe7 24. Qxe5! Qxe5 25. Nf7+ & 26. Nxe5, up 2 Pawns for the endgame.

Black should have tried 19 ... dxe5 20. Bf6+ Rg7 21. Bxe5 only losing a Pawn. 19 ... Qg7 pinned the Bg5 against the mate threat on g2, but White got around that with 20. Rxf5! Bxf5 (20 ... h6? 21. Bf6) 21. Nxf5, and now 21 ... Qxg5 trades down to a won endgame for White after 22. Qd4+ Rg7 23. Qxg7+ Qxg7 24. Nxg7 Kxg7 25. Rd1.

Sep-18-08   OneArmedScissor: Thanks <tpstar> Very crafty play by L'Ami
