Kibitzer's Corner
May-22-04   Benjamin Lau: With the exception of his win over Ernst, all of Carlsen's most interesting games so far seem to have been with 1. d4 (see "Notable Games").
May-25-04   tacticsjokerxxx: This game was played at my club!
May-25-04   poktirity: Which club is that?

acirce: I used to play Rylander when we both were children.
May-29-04   tacticsjokerxxx: Stockholms Schacksällskap (at "salongerna")

acrice > that's nice.

May-29-04   poktirity: tacticsjokerxxx: Where are "Salongerna"?
May-29-04   Swindler: <poktirity>They moved not long ago to Ringvägen in Stockholm.
May-29-04   poktirity: Ok I played "skol-DM" there in March. Very low quality of play =).
Oct-04-04   tacticsjokerxxx: Nah top quality club!
Oct-07-05   thechesskid: This is an awesome game. At first I think Carlsen is going to lose his bishop on h3, but it doesn't matter because it helps Carlsen go for checkmate. Bh6 was spectacular! Maybe I can play like this against 2350s this weekend :)
Oct-29-05   Poisonpawns: This is a great game, but I love the Dutch Defense so i have to stick my two sense worth of analysis in.14.c5 was interesting, the main line goes 14.Re1 Nxc4 15.Re4 Nd6 16.Rxf4 c6 17.dxc6 bxc6.Black was too greedy with 15.g5!? threatening to trap the bishop. With the cramped condition of blacks pieces,It favors white to sac his bishop, and have the open g-file for attack, since white is really up 2 pieces anyway. So 15..b6! should have been played. 16.Kh1! not the greedy 16.Bxg5? which is met by 16..Qe8. 21.Qh5 White is down a piece but not really,it is actually black who is down a piece! as his bishop(c8) and Rook (a8) are out of the game.Dynamic chess from Carlsen here. 21..Qf8!? is blacks best defensive attempt 22.Rxg6+ hxg6 23.Qxg6+ Qg7 24.Qe8+ Qf8 25.Qg6+ is double edged.

25..Kg7!? is blacks last chance to stay in it but he loses the queen in one variation, but has chances with the rook and bishop vs the queen. 28..Bxe6 forces mate in six
Great game by Magnus:Black must play 15..b6 here to challenge whites idea in 14.c5!? besides after 15..g5 Blacks Kingside is weakened badly and then the g-file falls into whites hands.

Atking: A good post <Poisonpawns>. Very respecfull to chess. Searching for the true if there is one... But <21..Qf8!? is blacks best defensive attempt 22.Rxg6+ hxg6 23.Qxg6+ Qg7 24.Qe8+ Qf8 25.Qg6+ is double edged.> looks wrong 25.Rg1+ Bg7 26.Qh5 with Ne4~Ng5 else immediatly 23.Rg1 looks very difficult. Isn't it? As you noted it, White is not really piece down. Therefore on 14.c5!? f3 15.Bh3 b6! (Ba6~Bd3 with in some lines Nd3 BxNc3! and Qxd5) to defend is really a fine idea. In all, we will agree: another wonderfull game from this young genuis and an interesting opening somewhat neglected.
Sep-11-07   cionics: 18 Bh6 and the sequence of moves that follow it are so beautiful.
Jun-04-08   Whitehat1963: Tuesday/Wednesday puzzle after 29...Kg8. Actually, more of a test of efficiency.
