MANUEL AARON (born Dec-30-1935) Myanmar (citizen of India) [what is this?] Manuel Aaron was born on the 30th of December 1935 in Toungoo, Myanmar (formerly Burma) and grew up in Tamil Nadu, India. He was the first Indian chess master in the modern tradition. Awarded the International Master (IM) title in 1961 after winning the Asian-Australian Zonal, he was India's first IM. In 14 Indian Championships he took 1st place on 7 occasions from 1959 to 1981, and five times in succession from 1969 to 1973. He also won the Tamil Nadu Championship 11 times between 1957 and 1982. In 1962 he qualified for the Stockholm interzonal and although finishing last place (23rd place) he inflicted defeats upon Lajos Portisch and Wolfgang Uhlmann. He became an International Arbiter (IA) in 1986. He played with the Indian team at the 1960, 1962, and 1964 Chess Olympiads.

Aaron, Manuel (1935-   ) India’s first International Master (IM).  He was born in Toungoo, Burma on December 30, 1935 and became an International Master in 1961.  In 1962 he took last place out of 23 players in the Stockholm Interzonal.  He became an International Arbiter in 1986.  His highest FIDE rating was 2420.  He has won the state of Tamil Nadu (Madras) 10 times and the India National Championship 9 times.  These records still stand.  He is the director of the Aaron Chess Academy, India’s first chess academy and the founder and editor of Chess Mate magazine.
