I am curious to a short bio. I am "loss for words" amazed at your efforts in the GMYS game.

<I orginally texted a lengthy post> but deleted it. Its exactly as you would expect as a post from me.

Please go ahead and tell us anyways. If you really want the extra-long post, then I don't mind reposting what I thought was redundant, but I'm sure you'll understand that several people who want to know more about you, wll find it this way.

Thanks

<As a team, how can we harness people who only have intermittent time to spend generating analysis? This I believe is our biggest opportunity to grow. How do we make those free resources willing to actually spend a few minutes, flipping on their computer one or two times a month, and feeling like their contribution is important?>

sentriclecub: Sorry if my recent question was too all-encompassing.

This one was the most important...

imag: Hi, good job on the analysis tree. In the Ng4 line, I think that after

59...Ng4 60.Rb5+ Kd4 61.Rxh5 c3 62.Ke2 Ne3 63.Rg5 c2 64.Kd2 Ke4

65.Rc5 followed by Rxc2 might be a faster way to reach a tablebase win. But I sure hope GMT will resign earlier than that.

Jul-28-08   pferd: I don't claim it is an improvement (in the sense that it checkmates faster) but in your posted mainline:

60.Rb5+ Kd4 61.Rxh5 c3 62.Ke2 Ne3 63.Rg5 c2 64.Kd2 Ke4 65.h5 Nf5 ...

65.Kc1 is a very attractive alternative. For example:

65...Nf5 66.Rxf5
65...Nd5 66.Rxd5
65...Nc4 66.Rg4+ and 67.Rxc4

Otherwise 66.Rxa5

With both rook pawns captured, and our King sitting on c1, surely that will bring a resignation.

Artar1: Using a 24-ply analysis for each ply examined, I got a very similar result to what has already been posted:

59. Kf3 Ng4 60. Rb5+ Kd4 61. Rxa5 Ne5+ 62. Ke2 Nd3 63. Rg5 c3 64. Rd5+ Kxd5 65. Kxd3 Tablebase win for White in 20 moves.

click for larger view

<61. Rxa5> does not shorten the game.

So what will it be folks? Will we play <61. Rxa5> or <61. Rxh5>?

By taking the a-pawn, there does seem to be fewer options for Black, but I don't like the idea of trading our rook for the knight, letting Black achieve even material, despite the fact that Black will most certainly lose regardless of which pawn is captured.
