My English Chess Federation grade for 2008-9 is in the mid-180s - which is around 2175 FIDE Elo.

Best scalps: a draw with IM Colin Crouch, a victory over FM Michael Franklin.

TommyC: Kasparov must watch Kramnik lose games like this and say to himself, <1.d4 - why didn't I think of that?>

   Jul-09-08 Topalov vs I Cheparinov, 2008

TommyC: I think this is an astonishing game by Topalov, and not just Cheparinov-out-of-form. Look at the position after <23.Nf3>! White has all but one piece on the back-rank . . . yet is positionally almost already won! ...

TommyC: <DCP23: <TommyC: Svidler once said Kramnik was the opponent most likely to outplay him in an equal position.> True. Svidler also said that when he plays Kramnik, he always gets the feeling that the guy across the board is "seriously above me, stronger than I" (actual quote).

TommyC: Hi <Fiberking>, I have been wondering if his mind is on Anand too . . . I wonder if their match will see something as totally surprising as the Berlin Wall get played?

TommyC: I agree with <acirce> in his comment to <sallom89> that computer lines aren't very telling atm. I also agree that white should not swap a rook atm. It is far easier to imagine a fortress coming along when it's just Q+Ps v R+N+Ps.

TommyC: Hi <zanshin>! South Ken's not really near me - it's the other side of London in fact - although I know it quite well, because I use to work at the Royal College of Music up there. It's a charming area. I always got the impression IC had a nice chess club - they've had some fun ...

zanshin: Hey <TommyC>! Good for you that you opened your forum. I used to study at Imperial College in South Kensington. Is that anywhere near you?

zanshin: <TommyC> No, I did not play chess in London. I lived there for only 6 months before moving out to the IC Field Station in Ascot. I really like the South Ken area. My family visited there last summer for 5 days and I saw places I used to walk past for years without going inside, like the Victoria and Albert Museum, and parts of the Science Museum. I wanted to show them the Royal Albert Hall, but they wanted to get some sleep as they were still tired from the flight ;-)
