Knight13: This opening is way too commonly played.
Jul-13-05   farrooj: hey guys I'm studying this opening with c3 followed by b4. Is there a page for that opening?
Jul-13-05   mymt: <farrooj> have you got a Premium Membership?.It gives you FULL access to the Opening Explorer & the Game Collections which have just about everything you want . Well worth the money & you can have a little picture next to your name!
Jul-13-05   farrooj: I know the advantages of Premium memberships. Is there some kind of member code that doesn't allow Premium members to give opening explorer pages or other things? :)

Swapmeet: Does white have some sort of refutation here?

7.Nc3 Bxc3+ 8.bxc3 Nxe4

I can't seem to find this line anywhere (except in alot of U10 championships, which says something right there...) I was just wondering since 9.0-0 would just transpose into a line that is somewhat inferior for white, no?

bumpmobile: Here's a rather mundane and half chess-related question specific to this opening: How would one pronounce the name of this opening? When I say it, it comes out with more syllables than it probably should.

Sneaky: I don't know how accurate this is, but I've heard it said: "JOKE - OH"

Sep-23-05   Dudley: Andrew Soltis says Joke-Oh so I'll take that as gospel.
Oct-12-05   AlexanderMorphy: b4 (the evans gambit) could be useful! if you want to know more about it go to the evans gambit page on this website..myself and other people have made good points about about it!
Oct-12-05   geaux82: I got quite a laugh from this GP.

B Gutierrez Fernandez vs C Vega Velasco, 2001

Sep-22-06   jamesmaskell: I meet this opening very frequently. Perhaps because while its drawish at International level, at club level it can be spiced up. I dont play it as White, instead going for my Ruy Exchange instead. As Black though as long as I can hold back Whites initial assault, I can attack through the Queenside. At least it worked last night (I wish I had the moves written down but it was 15 minute quickplay). In positions like that it gets very complex very quickly even for an e4 opening. Black can hold it and counter-attack but its not easy.
Feb-27-07   SirBruce: Many years ago, I had Power Chess on my computer (WChess engine) and it preferred to teach the Giouco Piano and I got to hate it. After learning the many ways Black can blunder, it seems with good play this opening is highly drawish and often a bore. I prefer the Ruy Lopez now, I suppose because it puts pressure on c6-d7-e8 or forces black to weaken his queenside early.

WannaBe: Opening of the day, I know there is a 'quiet' version. Too bad that there isn't a quadruple-forte version!!!! :-))
