Jul-19-06   Atking: A geat game from Botvinnik. Is there some analysis on 10.Rxh7 ? It looks interesting 10.Rxh7!!? BxNf3 (10. ...KxRh7 11.Ng5+) 11.RxBg7+ KxRg7 12.QxBf3 (12.gxBf3!?) 12. ...dxe 13.dxe Nc6 14.Be3 Nxe5 15.Qe4! then Bd3 0-0-0 and g4
Sep-15-11   perfidious: Despite Botvinnik's victory in this game, 7....Nb6 did not become popular, as Pirc players came to prefer 7....c5: Nakamura vs Smirin, 2005.

In White's preliminary analysis, he overlooked that 21....Nc4 was possible, after which his initiative dried up.

In my opinion, it is only with 25.Qh2+ that Gipslis went seriously wrong, after which his pieces became unco-ordinated and his lack of development showed; he might have tried the seemingly dangerous 25.0-0-0 Qd6 26.Rh1+ Kg7 27.Rh3, though this is far from easy to assess in a practical game, especially when one has been in the driving seat and the time has come to adjust to changing circumstances.
