I have been playing chess for most of my life.Due to lack of competition and other factors,I never progressed beyond the novice level. I am however a big fan of the game and its history.

My favorite players are:Morphy,Lasker,Tal,Fischer,Kasparov,and Alekhine.

My favorite Chess movies are:Searching For Bobby Fischer AND Knight Moves. I also liked the Columbo episode that dealt with chess.

My Favorite Movies are :GODFATHER ,The Fly,DEEP IMPACT,FIGHT CLUB, FINAL DESTINATION 3,and Friday the 13th Part VIII-Jason Takes Manhattan My favorite TV shows are CSI (all version),The SOPRANOS,FRASIER,SEINFELD,FAMILY GUY,and FRIENDS (ON DVD)

kevin86: A very good game by white. The attack was brilliant and effective against the former WC. Tal tried all of the tricks that he had,but couldn't overcome white's pawn advantage.

kevin86: It seems that I am not the only person who holds this game in high regard. Black sacrifices or exchanges three queens and two rooks. I especially enjoy the three moves by each:black's 29-31 and white's 30-32. Black advances a pawn three times, capturing a queen-while white captures a

kevin86: A nice finish-white is finally able to capture the impudent black pawn.(After 37 Be2) The knight cannot guard b4 via a6 or d3 because of the sentry bishop and the same knight blocks his own king forom the b4 square.

   Sep-08-08 Keene vs E Fielder, 1964 (replies)

kevin86: This is about a picturesque game as I've ever seen. In less than 20 moves we have: a queen sacrifice two rooks captured by minor pieces in the corner a pin on the queen. a fork of queen, king, and bishop. In fact in the final position, only the sole bishop on h5 is NOT under attack.

   Sep-08-08 G Vescovi vs R Szuhanek, 1994

kevin86: The idea of this one is to get the pawns off the g-file. The sac removes black's and the combination following takes away white's. The big,bad rook then dominates and the end is very near

technical draw: <kevin86: Nobody has posted here all year. How sad! I guess I'll have to.> Reasons why:
1. It's not corn season
2. You don't lend an ear to what is said.
3. I don't want you to think I'm stalking you.
4. Only those ranked colonel and above can post here. 5. Iowa backwards is awol...

kevin86: Three punny quotes related to ears (and hearing)

1"Friends,Romans,countrymen- lend me your ears" : Julius Caesar

2 "I'm all ears":H Ross Perot,1992 presidential campaign.

3 "Do you hear me now?" :Verizon commercial.

------------

If you merge Hawkeyes and Buckeyes together you get a bunch of crossed eyes from OHIOWA.

YouRang: I hope that a year and 2 days isn't too long of a lapse to reply to someone's post :-)

<meloncio: <YouRang>< I heard that "Osco", when pronounced, is essentially as Spanish word that means "I vomit".> Yes, but not exactly. When pronoucing 'Osco', maybe it sounds like the Spanish word "asco", whose meaning is "loathing, disgust, revulsion". I like a lot this kind of funny stories. :-)>

Interesting that you *sort of* confirm the "Osco" name thing, although snopes dismissed it: http://www.snopes.com/business/misx...

Perhaps the name "Osco" resembles "asco", which means revulsion, but this still wasn't the (stated) reason for the failure of Osco drug stores. Either way, changing the name to Osco was a dumb idea.

YouRang: Oh yes, we were discussing marketing blunders...

-- The company Electrolux, a Scandinavian company that manufactures and sells vacuum cleaners, first attempted to market in the United States in the 1970s. Their chosen slogan was, "Nothing sucks like an Electrolux."

-- A German consumer goods company that tried to market and sell toilet paper and other paper goods in the United States named their goods, "Krapp."

-- When Pepsi tried to use its slogan, "Come Alive with Pepsi" in Japan, the translation came to mean, "Bring back your dead ancestors with Pepsi."

-- Frank Perdue's chicken slogan, "It takes a strong man to make a tender chicken" was translated into Spanish as "It takes an aroused man to make a chicken affectionate."

willyfly: I am not FREE - I am affordable, reasonably priced Willy and I am guessing that the Fly you are referring to is the movie where the guy becomes part Fly while experimenting with a transporter device. FREE might be a third cousin twice removed or a second cousin thrice removed. Actually the name comes from a song - "Will he go round in circles? Will he fly high like a bird up in the sky?" (I needed to think of a name for an email account a long time ago.) As for the necktie? It just tells what kind of a guy I am. I am a croupier - that is - a dealer in a casino. So - as you can imagine I get teased a lot for the Willy name. It's all for fun. Thanks for stopping by my profile.
