   Sep-13-08 V Smirnov vs V Dydyshko, 1994 (replies)

eblunt: I think this shows up that the Ra7 was weaker than white thought. Wins Queen for rook, but doesn't start a real attack and gifts a tempo to black. Black shows that the tempo is worth more than white wins on a7.

eblunt: As per <The Bycote:> after 26 .... Kh8 27. Qh6 is the killer move, preparing Rg7 and forcing ...

   Sep-10-08 Petrosian vs A Matanovic, 1959 (replies)

eblunt: or alternatively : 22 ... Bxb6 23 cxb6 Qb5 IMO black is slightly worse. After praising yesterday's puzzle, I'm going to say this isn't one of CGs finest. ...

eblunt: <jimx: I'm going to go against popular opinion and say that I think this is a really good and original Tuesday puzzle.> I agree. Just because there are 3 winning moves, doesn't make it a poor puzzle. There's a clear winning sequence (or 3) to be found, consider it solved if you

eblunt: < The beginner:> To me these puzzles are : Find the move that 1) wins outright or 2) clearly wins material , that is better than any other move. If I find it to a reasonable depth against the best defences then I'm happy I've solved it. Sometimes it's saving for a draw, fair ...

Aug-27-08 Vasiukov vs Taimanov, 1965 (replies)

eblunt: <znprdx> After Qe6 instead of the king recapture Black is Knight for Rook down with absolutely nothing as compensation. That's game over at GM level, not <quite playable> ROFL ! And yes I saw it, both with the re-capture and Qe6. It's about right for a Wednesday IMO.

Aug-14-08 Winawer vs Chigorin, 1882 (replies)

eblunt: White would have been much better off with 22 Qxg7+ KxQ 23

Jul-23-08 Rada vs Kostal, 1942 (replies)

eblunt: < MostlyAverageJoe: I expected black to play 21...Re5 instead of the obviously losing Qe5? White would just harvest the rook 22.Qxb2 and cruise to a bit slower victory. > In this line after after 22. Qxb2 goes 22 ...

eblunt: <AccDrag: > I missed your reference to it, good point. Some nice themes in this puzzle - deflection sacrifice, flight squares etc.

   Jun-28-08 P Popovic vs M Lazic, 1993 (replies)

eblunt: 22 Nxc5 seems to win a pawn for nothing. Probably what I'd play OTB to be honest.
