May-16-08  hovik2003: <Youjoin: <hovik2003> It´s worst than that: they didn´t drug him, they payed him :-(>

You know, that could be a possibility also, Aronian stayed with his family in Armenia for last three months, and believe me being Armenian myself, you don't know how fast you could spend lots of money for your family members in that country!, so he was probably broke when he got to Bulgaria!

May-16-08  percyblakeney: I don't think it will be that easy for Topalov in the last rounds, first he has to beat a 2700 player with black, and that is always hard to do, I'd guess it will be a draw. Then he has a Radjabov he hasn't beaten in 5½ years in the last round, so I think the outcome will be two draws for Topalov.
May-16-08  TurkChess: <Pawnsgambit: The whole purpose of having one player as Cheprinov at Mtel masters is Topalov getting 2 free points.>

That was really funny.

May-16-08  DCP23: <Marmot PFL> People have been put in my ignore list for less.
May-16-08  hovik2003: So it is high noon stand off after all, Chucky with his 12-gauge shotgun will go against Dirty Harry(Topalov) himself with his Luger's .357 magnum, who will win?, I guess it depend a lot on how they feel in the remaining days of encounter, whoever that will have better mood to play chess, he will be deservingly the winner!
May-16-08  cannibal: <Pawnsgambit: The whole purpose of having one player as Cheprinov at Mtel masters is Topalov getting 2 free points.>

Sure, after Topalov's miserable result at the last three Mtel's that was certainly necessary...

May-16-08  cbotev: <Pawnsgambit> The whole purpose of having one player as Cheprinov at Mtel masters is Topalov getting 2 free points.

Given that he is not the one at the last place in the current standings, he is obviously not that bad. At least he put up more of a show than Bu who might have been paid by Chucki to fold at the eighth move.

May-16-08  hovik2003: <percyblakeney>
I agree with you, Radjabov is playing much better chess than what he was diong in Baku, he will be a very tough nut to crack for anybody on remaining days.
May-16-08  smaragdus: At the Baku Grand Prix Cheparinov lost 4 games in a row (four games), against much weaker opponents than Topalov, he was beaten by Grischuk, by Adams, by Bacrot and by Wang, and the strongest of them is about 50 points below Topalov, and no one mentioned anmything of bribes, complots, fixed games and such nonsense, only sarcarstic and peppery remarks against Cheparinov and the evil Bulgarian gang. But now, after losing to Topalov, who I claim, at his worst form, is a better performer compared to Bacrot or Navara or Grischuk, the Topalov haters roar out that it was all arranged, no matter that it is more than normal that Topalov beats Cheparinov, the way Kramnik beats Navara right now, in fact it would be both strange and suspicious if Topalov hadn't beaten him, because he is the stronger, the more experienced and the high-rated player who is always a favourite no matter the tournament. Why it was not scandalous when Cheparinov destroyed his winning chances against Ivanchuk? And I cannot understand why Cheparinov should not be among the participants being Bulgarian and a Topalov's second, in fact this is his second grand tournament after Baku grad prix, so it is quite normal that the Bulgarian organizers give him the chance to play at home in an elite tournament, the way Gashimov participated at Baku. In my humble opinion Cheparinov plays much better than Aronian and Bu, and he beat both Rajabov and Mamedyarov at Baku, so he deserved to be invited, and Sofia was planned to be his debut grand tournament long before that dubious grand prix series were forged by the greatest chess swindler of our time Ilyumdjinov. So in this inudnation of comments i see only hatred, unvailed hatred and no arguments at all. It is quite normal, natural and unsuspicious when Ivanchuk, N11, destroys Cheparinov, no matter that Cheparinov has eliminated him in Chanti-Mansiysk, and it is a fabulous sensation when Topalov, who is presently N4, beats him. This is strange, absurd and based on no earhly logic, maybe lunar logic is different I Guess, and no common sense. And more, compare Topalov's and Ivanchuk's ratings for the last 3-4 years, and their tournament victories and yopu will get the clear idea that Topalov is performing much better and is the more effective and stable player at classic chess. I really got tired of reading ridiculous allegations and rootless accusations stated by people whose only guiding-light in life is malice, odium and spite.
May-16-08  zoat22: smaragdus> in my opinion, u r simply a topalov fan, so u r supporting him... i hav read all the comments that you have posted and they all support topalov... so i will have to ignore your comment , as it tells us nothing...
May-16-08  SatelliteDan: If you think there is cheating..maybe you do.
May-16-08  acirce: <Nov-18-07 smaragdus: I am bored and tired of all that kramnik humbug. Don't you ever get exhausted of exalting the greatest cheater in modern chess? That there are no good players nowadays doesn't mean that kramnik is good. I hope he will win against anand so that topalow will have the chance to destroy him in a re-match that he hadn't been given no matter he had the right. Yes, his greatest mistake was he accepted to play against kramnik, who had no right of claiming such a honour, and especially in elista where kgb created the high-tech wc, and where happened the greatest ever swnidle and disgrace in chess. kramnik is a coward and abuser who was a world champion only because of Kasparov's and Topalov's good will and he will get what he deserve in Wijk aan Zee if he won't play one of his favourite games- playing ill time and again, and again, where there is a threat to stand against better players in better form. And i cannnot imagine what an idiot should one be to be able to adore such a rascal.>
May-16-08  actinia: <smaragdus>
There is a fair amount of anecdotal evidence that Topalov has received assistance during game play. The 2006 M-Tel was particularly suspicious. He also stooped pretty low in accusing Kramnik of cheating during their WC match. That's why people hate Topalov.
May-16-08  DCP23: <smaragdus>

Wow. That was a mouthful. You must be Bulgarian, they are so voluble.

<[...] Topalov, who I claim, at his worst form, is a better performer compared to [...] Grischuk>

And I claim that Grischuk at his worst form is a better chessplayer than Topalov at his best form.

May-16-08  DUS: <hovik2003: <DUS: There is a Russian word - samozvanets. I hope someone will translate it into English, in case <microdot> doesn't know Russian.>

There is a Persian word- bache porru!
There is no need to translate it into English, because <microdot> claims to be Iranian IM and speaks Persian>

<Hovik> Did <microdot> ever talk to you in Persian?

May-16-08  dumbgai: <smaragdus>...<In my humble opinion Cheparinov plays much better than Aronian and Bu, and he beat both Rajabov and Mamedyarov at Baku>

That's EXACTLY why people are suspicious of his losses to Topalov - because Cheparinov is such a good player who is generally in good form right now, yet manages to get blown off the board against Topalov like you'd expect a 2300-level FM at a critical point in the tournament when Topalov is trying to catch up to the leader. I don't see how you can completely ignore all these coincidences; you explicitly accused Kramnik of cheating yet his circumstances were much less coincidental. (Look at game 2, how did Fritz let him walk into a mate in 3?) It must bother you greatly that not everybody in the world idolizes Topalov as a God the way you do.

May-16-08  DUS: <<hovik2003: <microdot> just for the matter of straighting record with <Davolni> , so he knows you are genuine, please tell us what Z.(initial for father's name) in your name Mershad Z. Sharif stand for, because that is a kind of information you couldn't find in internet!>>

<hovik2003: ...<microdot> never told me what that Z. stands for in his name so there is lots of doubt about his claim's validity!...>

It seems microdot doesn't like the letter Z. on which Hovik has asked several times.

Two questions to <microdot>.

(1) please finally tell us what Z.(initial for father's name) in your name Mershad Z. Sharif stand for.

(2) If you don't know the answer of (1), please tell us the name of your real father.

May-16-08  wallytherhino: Xiangzhi & Aronian still don't have any wins. Is this unusual for a small GM tournament? Topalov is one win away from tieing Ivanchuk. For all the hype Ivanchuk gets for nailing five in a row and being undefeated in a super GM category 20 tournament, Topalov deserves equal credit for hanging in there and giving himself winning opportunities. 6.5/8 is amazing but, 6/8 is also a very good score. Radjabov is one win over .500 and he isn't having an amazing tournament but, on the same note he isn't 4 or 5 games down like Xiangzhi & Aronian. The positions in this tournaments up for contention are paired. Xiangzhi & Aronian are fighting for 5th and / or 6th. Cheparinov & Radjabov are fighting for 3rd and / or 4th. Topalov and Ivanchuk are fighting for 1st and / or 2nd. With two games left to go I think there will be way more draws then then usual.

Round 9:

If Cheparinov beats Radjabov then both would be equal with a score of 4.5/9

Round 10:

I predict all draws to close out the tournament. If Round 9 goes insane and ties the positions I could see a slugfest but, that is a very low probability

May-16-08  anandrulez: Interesting thing about Topalov is that , he lost 1 game vs Ivanchuk . He has so far 5 wins and 1 loss out of 8 games played. Incredible fighting player . I am looking for topa and chuky to tie ....
May-16-08  PeerGynt: Ivanchuk impressed statistically, but his play does not correspond to 5/5. He got lucky in several games.

Topalov is the one who impresses with his play. I won't be surprised, if he beats also Bu 2:0 and maybe will beat Radjabov next round. He shows the most stable performance in this tournament.

Also if Chepa tries to beat Ivanchuk he will lose again. Chucky is not showing anything extraordinary in Sofia, but his defending and counter-attacking are superb at the moment.
