  • Revised the Tournament Directors page to include Albert Rine as USCF Club Level TD. Did you know that a USCF certified Club Level TD can direct tournaments up to 60 players expected? Few Oklahoma tournaments for all ages expect more than this. Tournament directors and organizers are needed in the OKC area to have more tournaments there. You don't have to be a USCF TD to organize a tournament, only know one who will help you out. Having a separate organizer and director for a tournament often works out best. To find out more about becoming a USCF TD, visit the Tournament Directors page to see the USCF certification standards, then if you have any questions, email admin@ochess.org. Oklahoma's USCF Delegate and Alternate Delegate, Chuck Unruh and Jim Gray, were also at the US Open for the Committee and Delegates' meetings. Chuck Unruh is now USCF Finance Committee Chair. We wish him well in this important role.
Charles Unruh finished the 9th and final round with a loss to class A player Gainer Phay. His score in the 108th US Open is 4-0-5. Although Charles did not have a break even score for the tournament, several of his games were well played and worth the trip to New Jersey.
We already look forward to the 109th US Open held in Dallas, Texas next year on 2-10 August 08. There are normally 3 schedules; 9-day, 6-day and 5-day, all merging at round 6 for the last 3 days. Put this on your calendar now and begin planning to join in the fun.

Visit the Interactive Games page to play through more games of Oklahoma chess players. Thanks to Chuck Unruh for the updates.

1 Aug 07 -

  • US Open Update: Charles Unruh was rattled by a loss in round one when he played a prepared line in the Pirc defense against a high rated expert. The game was most likely a draw in the endgame position after a hard fought battle. In the second round, Charles plays too aggressively and drops material in an oversight. This is a tough start to 108th for Charles, but next round parings should be very favorable. To interactively play through the annotated games, click HERE (newest games are at the bottom of the list). Visit the Interactive Games page to play through more games of Oklahoma chess players. Thanks to Chuck Unruh for the updates.
