This set has been crafted to imitate the prevailing design and dimension of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cook in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849. The distinctive feature of this set is in the Knight design, which is modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon. Its craftsmanship is stunning.
The Nobility Series from our Premier Collection is Crafted from Red Sandal Wood and Boxwood. Red Sandal Wood is a striking, red-burgundy-colored, light-grained, exotic wood which is more expensive than ebony, but is much more resilient and less likely to develop hairline cracks so prevalent in weighed ebony chessmen. The King stands 4" tall with a 1 7/8" base. From the noble Knight to the towering Rook, these pieces are sure to catch the eye.
These pieces fit well on a board with 2.25 - 2.5" squares. Please view our "Items of Interest" below for recommended boards (sold separately).
