Aug-12-08   Duck McCluck: On your committee idea, would it be laid out in the format as RV does?

I think that is what the team is used to, and if there can be another page that summarizes a variation as clearly and succinctly as RandomVisitor's forum header, then it is much more likely to catch on.

The problem with delivering summaries to the main page, is that after 25 kibitzes, the stuff gets shelved in archives.

If you deliver summaries to a forum, then you can't arrange the order, you can't modify stuff, etc...

I know I'm not a team leader, but I can give you honest input from a potential customer. Unless I felt that a move was very important, then it really wasn't worth the navigating between forums and main-page postings by the anti-forists and making sure some people dont post low-ply or low quality engine like crafty or natwarl.

I think its great that you will be involved in the organization. You are cool tempered, and very great to deal with (as I've observed) you treat people with respect and I know you'll be dependable and hard-working on the GMAN2 game. Lucky to have those people that made the VIP lists, you appeared on all but 2. I got in the game late, but will be active from move-1 on our next endeavor.

Ideally, yes, I think updates to the summary should be in the forum header. <RandomVisitor>'s forum is an excellent model.

I have some other ideas about how best to consolidate the information, which I'll post on in more detail as we get closer to the game.

Thanks for the complimentary input, and I'll see you in the next game!

  chancho: I don't know where or how many people played in the World vs Knudsen 2003.

Knudsen's correspondence chess site:

http://www.correspondencechess.com/

He has an e-mail link in that site that you can use to ask him if you wish to know.

  sentriclecub: <<N.B. Part 8 includes a full analysis of 19...Qf6.>> excellent! Thats my only contribution to the game and I got worn out--its unbelievable how much time it takes to compete against RV! I had 3 laptops running 24/7

<<My most important thing i'd like to say that if we play 20. e3 first, then black can play Ne6 and now we lost our chance to put the knight on 20. Nd4

If we play 20. Nd4 first, then odds are highly likely we get in 21. e3 on the very next move.

If we follow Tabanus advice and play 20. e3 and then he plays Ne6, then this is how 21. Nd4 scores...

3. = (0.19): 21.Nd4 Nxd4 22.Rxd4 Qe7 23.Qxe7+ Rxe7 24.b3 Be8 25.Ne2 Kf6 26.Rd3 Ra6 27.Bxe4 fxe4

HOWEVER!!!

If we play 20. Nd4 first then here are Rybka's scores at super high nodecount

<if 20. Nd4...Reb8> then

1. = (0.36): 21.e3 Rb7 22.Rc2 Nd6 23.b3 Ne4 24.Nxe4 fxe4 25.Bf1 a4 26.b4 Rab8 27.Rb1 Ra8

<if 20. Nd4...Rec8> then

4. ² (0.33): 21.e3 a4 22.f4 Nxc3 23.Rxc3 Rcb8 24.Bf1 Be8 25.Rc2 Rb6 26.Nf3 Ne6 27.Bg2 Qf8

-

<if 20. Nd4...Rf8> then

2. (0.72): 21.e3 Rfb8 22.Na4 Nb5 23.Nxb5 Rxb5 24.b3 Re8 25.f3 Qd6 26.Qxd6 Nxd6 27.Bf1 Rb4 28.Nc5

-

<if 20. Nd4...a4> then

2. ² (0.42): 21.e3 Rec8 22.f4 Qd6 23.Nxe4 Qxa3 24.bxa3 dxe4 25.Nxc6 Bxc6 26.Rxc6 Nb5 27.Rd7+ Kh6

It is clear that by playing 20. e3 first, we give GMT better choices and let him get in moves which make it no longer as profitable to play Nd4.

If we play Nd4 first, we force GMT to let us get in e3 or better on the next move but at a higher eval and much more favorable position.

Also know that I have contributed to ever section of Zanshin's forum analyzing EVERY reply to Nd4 and to e3 and everything gets slippery if we play 20. e3 before 20. Nd4. By playing 20. Nd4 first, we give him NO FLEXIBILITY! which is the main reason to wait one more move on 21. e3, but lets consider 20. Nd4 first.

All my data is from User: zanshin (see the kibitzing area for the 20. e3 stuff which is inferior to all the lines we worked on with 20. Nd4)>>

Great work, thank you! I'd think the summarizing committee will need to go into full swing towards the end of the opening. The opening to middlegame transition is a critical point for the production of summaries. I'd like to therefore get the committee organized and begin discussions in this forum in the coming days.
