A new mini film festival Days of Russian Cinema is organised by the Russian Youth Cultural Centre and plays at Sylvia Park Hoyts Cinemas this weekend.

The centre has arranged two three-hour programmes, including modern short films, documentaries and animation, all subtitled in English.

A popular film-maker from Moscow Marina Mironova will be speaking after the screening of her short, Lullaby for My Daughter. Other Russian directors featured include Vladimir Kobrin, Rustam Khamdamov and Alexander Tatarski.

Organiser Galina Ledogorova, who has sourced the films from her own contacts in the Russian arts scene, says the compilations are an exclusive screening and an amazing chance for New Zealanders to enjoy Russian cinema.

“It’s taken two years to organise but we want to make it every year.”

Screenings include an intermission with Russian music and snacks. Each day has a different programme of nine films.
