Welcome to Dan Becker's Triathlon Site, a personal web page describing the races, road trips, and training of Dan Becker and the goofy world of triathlons. Triathlons are my favorite hobby. I love to train, and I love to race. I've done eight ironman distance races, and my goal is to do a double ironman or a 100 mile ultra run. I also would love to run a marathon in all 50 states. I have been a triathlete since 1984, and I live and work in Austin, Texas, with many of my races going to the nearby towns and cities. My arch-nemeses are Phil and Adam, my racing rivals.

If you are veteran triathlete, I hope you will laugh at the stories and empathize with the struggles and hardships of the sport. If you are new to triathlons, I hope you can learn a thing or two about the sport and will be interested enough to give it a try. It's fun to do multi-sport events, and the people you meet and the tales you create are the most valuable benefit of this sport.

On the left hand side are buttons to navigate the major areas of the site. They are:

  • Triathlons - returns you to this page, the triathlon home page.
  • Reports - describes races and road trips I have done. This is the main information page of this site.
  • Photos - images from years of triathlons. Lots of triple pictures. See what I look like at mile 26.
  • Training - training information and links to Lots of triple pictures. See what I look like at mile 26.
  • Humor - collections of tri comics, stories from rec.sport.triathlons, and pain only a masochist could love.
  • Nemeses - descriptions of my racing enemies and friends and their stories.
  • Links - links to related sites, retailers, and other friends of this site.

Now stop dreaming aboout the sport and get out there and ride. Check today's Austin weather.

What's New?

  • 2008/09/05 - I created an article on the 12 best Running Hills in Austin. Yes, I am still training, and running, and biking, and swimming, but I have not run many events worth reporting lately.
  • 2003/05/26 - On Memorial Day, I ran the Capitol of Texas triathlon in Austin again. Read more in the Race Reports page.
  • 2002/05/27 - On Memorial Day, I ran the Capitol of Texas triathlon in Austin. Conditions were perfect with 70 degree water temp, 70 degree air temp, and little wind. It was also great to blow through red lights on Congress Avenue while the Capitol loomed in the background. Read more in the Race Reports page.
  • 2001/10/27 - On Saturday, I ran the Race to the Rescue triathlon in Austin. Conditions were perfect with 75 degree water temp, 58 degree air temp, and no wind. It is the toughest short course I know. Also, I salute Marty Hoff who finished his first triathlon on this difficult course. Read more in the Race Reports page.
  • 2001/07/29 - Finally! I've run my first official race in over 2 years. It's been a while, but I had a great time at the Capital of Texas triathlon in Georgetown, Texas, 30 miles north of Austin. More details on the Race Reports page.
