I am far more a chess lover than chess player. The youngsters are too quick for me. I will mention three names which contributes to my chess interest. My first great favourite player was Bobby Fischer, I read all I could find in the newspapers during the 1972 World Championship match against Spasskij. Then I followed Simen Agdesteins nice performance in the eighties and nineties. My last favourite is the young and great Magnus Carlsen. I do all I can to follow his play live on internet. Great entertainment which really make me relax from all other burden and responsibility. I have read a lot of important chess history and bio of many great players. I follow kibitzing a lot, even though I seldom participate myself. I have serious respect for all the knowledge I see demonstrated in the kibitzing sessions, even so I think some hotties could put a little restraint on themselves. Anyway I love it because people engage in something important for themselves and their chess friends. I live in Nothern Norway where people is nice, summer is light and winter is dark.

Rolfo: frogbert, interesting and very telling graph and bar. (will may be reduce amount of arguing words :) Question is how persistent this pattern is, time will tell

Rolfo: frogbert, with these rapid changes it seems that the best strategy to stay on top of the ratinglist is not to play. My guess is therefore that Morozevich will be the new leader after Bilbao :)

Rolfo: tim, he certainly is an interesting player drawing attention from a vast part of chess world. When I started to look at ICC 2 - 3 years ago, he was the big star.. As many has pointed out, will he really break solidly into the 2700 group?

angslo: <meta> , I absolutely , ABSOLUTELY loved the matrix movie.

I have already seen total recall and terminator (all the movies in the terminator series) and loved them (those were the days when i used to watch every Arnold movie :) . speaking of sci-fi , i even watched 'the sixth day' of Arnold and liked it)

Today, I watched 'rocky Balboa'. I liked it ok - 5-6 on a scale of 1 to 10; 'Matrix' was 10 out of 10 .

now, that u recommend, I will order 'Matrix 2' now (Matrix 3 later).

How u doing, <meta>?

c u later ... :)

Jul-25-08   metatron2: <'Matrix' was 10 out of 10> that's my Matrix grade too..

<those were the days when i used to watch every Arnold movie :) > i kind of loved all Arny's movies (well maybe not Conan..), in action movies, apart from those mentioned, i especially liked 'predator' and 'the running man', but i also enjoyed his comedies (kindergarten cop, twins, junior). he is not a great actor in the classical way, but he just has such powerful presence that simply makes the movie, what can i say: he is Schwarzenegger..

<Today, I watched 'rocky Balboa'. I liked it ok - 5-6 on a scale of 1 to 10;> i wanted to see that one too, but didn't get the chance to do it yet, thought it would be interesting to see a 60 yrs old rocky fighting..

<How u doing, <meta>?> i am fine, just waiting to have some more spare time to do things that i love to, including reviewing some movies and books u mentioned, but the list is very long..

< I will order 'Matrix 2' now (Matrix 3 later).> hope you'll watch them with large screen tv and good sound system ..

<c u later ... :)> yep, in the mean time, enjoy :)

Rolfo: I was in Tromsų today taking a look at Arctic Chess Challenge. Even if Agdestein took a loss as black against Igor Kurnosov he has done well overall. Last round is tomorrow. Agdestein will play on Experience team when meating Youth team later this month (NH Chess Tournament). Chessbase' Mr. Friedel was there reporting. All the Carlsens was playing except Magnus who was spectator and enjoying his freetime. All in all very interesting.
Aug-10-08   metatron2: Rolfo, did u have a chance to chat with Magnus there?

Rolfo: Just a few words and well wishing about future challenges. He was cool and relaxed, he told he will participate in Tal's blitz in Moscow, worlds largest blitz championship 29th-30th of August before going directly to Grand Slam final in Bilbao together with Ivanchuk to meet the other participants

angslo: Rolfo, i thought u may be intereted in this:

<#3: We avoid discussing specific infractions, or perceived infractions, in public. This is for respect of member privacy and to disallow using such discussion as a backhanded way get around the "no personal attacks" policy>

User: chessgames.com

<angslo: < backhanded way to get around the "no personal attacks" policy.>

this you mentioned in your post about guidelines.

Would you please elaborate on that and may be give some examples of when users may be using < backhanded way to get around the "no personal attacks" policy.?>

Let's consider this eample/scenario:

if some user (let's say 'A') on some particular page repeatedly uses these kind of comments to 'B' -

"you wrote something very stupid"

"you wrote a bunch of BS"

"you are babbling nonsense"

"you are saying something moronic/comical etc"

So, 'A' uses these kind of comments repeatedly against 'B' and eventually 'B' loses temper and yells at 'A' and calls him name etc. 'A' accuses 'B' of personal attack publicly and continues his thing against 'B' (sometimes even after 'B' has put 'A' on ignore)

and 'A' keeps on doing the same thing with many users - incessantly?

or sometimes even just to annoy other users 'A' just contradicts their points - instead of giving his opinion why he thinks differently from 'D' , 'A' just keeps on saying

"'D' , you are wrong"

in response to almost every post of 'D'

or 'A' just chooses to be aggressive - REPEATEDLY - against some user 'E' by repeatedly saying things like

"WHAT THE HELL YOU MEAN"

So, what do you think of all this?

THANK YOU>

<chessgames.com: <ravel5184: <chessgames.com> Could you please make an option for "delete all posts in your forum"?> We may do that since there is no convenient way to wipe out a chessforum and start a clean slate. Thank you for the suggestion.

<hms123> We accidentally misconfigured the game when we put it in the database, but quickly spotted the error and corrected it. Don't worry, no harm done. Thank you for not posting/voting under team White and really mucking things up.

<Would you please elaborate on that and may be give some examples of when users may be using < backhanded way to get around the "no personal attacks" policy.?>> We'll be sure to include some examples in the upcoming document regarding infraction policies. Meanwhile we've got plenty of work with the upcoming Chessgames Challenge and the Summer Newsletter due to go out in a few days, so please have some patience while we prepare this document.>

angslo: <rolfo>, thank for ur post in my forum.

however, it is time for me to move on - to take time off cg.com for at least a year.

hopefully, regular users of carlsen page
will report the off-topicness and namecalling etc of persistent violators regularly and rigorously even though there will be some 'voices of wisdom' to cheer on and support such 'voices of reason'.

I have sent you my regular google mailid.

take care, friend :)

Rolfo: I happened to be in my car on way back home from a visit to the city today while Ivancuk - Carlsen game was taking place. What did I do? A call to my wife, getting her to start up ICC dasher and trying ob 1, ob 2 till finally ob 3 showed the right game, then guiding her to kick start crafty and reading the numbers :) I must tell she has never started dasher nor crafty before, though she has seen me glaring at the board and the numbers manytimes.. (They were about to complete the draw, and I understood the standing when she counted the pawns and the pieces:)) Yet another reason to aquire a wife :)
