Immigration, health care, corporate malfeasance, and too many attorneys.

This story has got it all. The executive summary: An illegal alien is involved in an auto accident with a severe injury requiring over two years of hospitalization. After he has somewhat recovered, he is shipped back to Guatemala where he now languishes in a small village with no income or health care. Lawyers are now suing the hospital for $$$$. Read it - it's a fascinating story and fairly accurate.

The Freewinds Are Carcinogenic

Dry dock workers of the Curacao Dry Dock Company (CDM) discovered dangerous levels of blue asbestos while conducting routine repairs on the Freewinds, flagship of the Church of Scientology's Sea Org and home to the Flag Ship Service Organization (FSSO). Scientologists like John Travolta and Tom Cruise attended several events and religious get-aways aboard the luxury cruise liner and subsequentally were potentially exposed to the deadly carcinogen.

Worse yet, an affidavit signed in 2001 alleging the presence of blue asbestos has surfaced. In it, Lawrence Woodcraft describes encountering "a powdery blue fibrous substance" he identified as asbestos on the ship early 1987. Thousands of tweenage girls the world over are expressing their outrage over the potential threat to their #1 crush by pre-ordering Battletoads this Saturday, May 10th.

The Tibetan Uprising and Next Week's Taiwan Presidential Elections

"Asia's governments come in two broad varieties: young fragile democracies--and older, fragile authoritarian regimes." - Paul A. Samuelson

Since Taiwan, the "democratic entity" also known as the Republic of China, claims reluctant sovereignty over the territory of Tibet also, this weekend's uprising in Lhasa has been of particular interest to us here in this "rebel province." The Tibetan uprising is also of serious concern here because next week's (03/22) crucial presidential contest, between pro-unification Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) leader Ma Ying-jeou and the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Frank Hsieh, could easily be turn upside down by China's current actions in the "Tibetan Autonomous Region."

Finnish School Shooting 7/11 - Translation of Sturmgeist's Manifesto

By popular demand, under the fold you'll find a translation of the rambling manifesto of yesterday's self-selected Darwinist. He had reportedly been on anti-depressants (in Finnish): he listed Cipralex, Luvox, Prozac and Zoloft on an online forum while critizing medication. It was today claimed he recently stopped taking his medication, perhaps exacerbating his apparent psychosis.

Under the fold you'll find a translation of his manifesto. It is offered as a service to the internet community, and doesn't imply any endorsement by the author - quite the contrary. While I trust this translation is more accurate than most found online, I'm sure there are some mistakes. Please note some parts are unparseable as there's quite a bit of lunatic rambling behind a thin veneer of verbose word play.

Breaking News: Broken Bridges

One will rise and one must fall.

The phone rings. It's Mom. She wants to know if I'm still alive. This happens more often than you'd think. A bridge has collapsed. I wasn't on it (sorry, guys), but I may well have been.

Hanging up with Mom, I do what every self-respecting blogger with delusions of legitimate journalistic credentials would do: put on my headphones, grab the camera, hop on the bike and go scoop the MSM.

Drug promotion and bribes

A study published today in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that 94% of doctors take some sort of bribe from pharmaceutical companies. Many doctors argue that these considerations are harmless and that the voluntary controls currently in place suffice.

Too often, those who make the greatest contributions to mankind pass away into obscurity, their legacy becoming one with the collective experience. One such man passed away this month. You may not know him or recognize his name, but you have cause to mourn his passing.

And what was his gift to the world? You need look no further than the grey image above these words.

In a press conference Ehud Olmert, Israel's Prime Minister, identified Israel as having nuclear weapons. This slip contrasted with their policy of neither denying nor affirming having nuclear weapons.
