Alaska Chess News

November 25, 2008

Congratulations Marven Breis!

Marven had the only perfect score after the four rounds played at Title Wave Bookstore on the 21st and 22nd of November.

Marven took out Mike Stabenow (number two overall), and Matt Parshall (number three) on his way to the title. Jim Hanlen fell from the top spot in a mad scramble where he ran out of time and his opponent, Randy Parshall, only had five seconds remaining! In the end,

Marven had four points, and six players (Jim Hanlen, Mike Stabenow, Matt Parshall, John Warren, Randy Parshall, and Jesse Holganza) tied for second with three. John Warren won top junior prize, and top Under 1200 - as well as tying for overall second!

There were 23 entrants in all.

The next tournament I will be conducting will be the Rondezvous (sic) in February. The USCF will likely have the scoretables prepared around Thanksgiving Day.

Best wishes to all and have some happy holidays!

Mike Stabenow

Congratulations Marvin on a fine Tournament win and the perfect score too!
You are indeed a worthy Champion!

Happy Holidays to All, and

Until next time ...
