Anand Wins Record Fifth Title At Wijk aan Zee Anand scored a brilliant round 13 victory over Boris Gelfand of Israel to win the Corus Chess Tournament in Wijk aan Zee for a record fifth time. Anand and Topalov shared the title with 9/13 and were joint champions. Four draws happened yet again. Ganguly had to play carefully to draw in the ending against Arencibia on the fourth board. Bruzon held Anand in 42 moves, Sasikiran drew Dominguez in 26, Nogueiras drew Harikrishna in 43 moves and Ganguly worked hard for his draw. India are on 24.5 points and tied for the ninth place. We need atleast another 9 points for a medal and the trend is against us! China's magic did not work against leaders Armenia. Armenia beat China 2.5-1.5 with Akopian beating Zhang Zhong. Swati Ghate gave the fine start winning by threatening to pin with her bishop. Humpy won a piece to help Indian win the second match in a row with black. Harika built on the lead with a breakthrough in the ending to win a knight. Ninth seed India is in fifth place and plays white against Romania on Friday. Ukraine rained down its tenth match victory in as many encounters beating Georgia 2-1. Ukraine leads with 23/30, Russia 22.5, China 20.5, Georgia 20, India and others 19.5.
