The study of heroes applies across the curriculum in all grade levels. It can be an integral part of character education, media arts and computer literacy and a tool for reading comprehension and the development of writing skills. MY HERO can be used to enrich thematic studies in the arts and sciences.

  Mali Bickley

Classroom teacher
Mali Bickley uses global education projects to integrate reading and writing strategies into meaningful projects that connect students globally.

Mali has used MY HERO with a variety of grades over the past few years. Her students won the National Multimedia Award from the Calgary Board of Education for their “My Hero” movie about Mohamed Sidibay, a former child soldier from Sierra Leone.

Last year, she introduced the synchronous tool Elluminate to MY HERO. Several classes from around the world participated in a live Web cast to share stories, films and their ideas about the heroes in their lives. Mali said that it was a highlight of her teaching career to see the power of communication and collaboration used to celebrate the heroes all around us.
